Studio Oscuro creates visual stage art where movement, light and sound are the fundamental narrative elements. Our productions are neither theatre performances, nor pure dance pieces but move in the twilight zone between dance and theatre where the movement, the body and the eye are crucial and together with music, soundscapes and visual magic create a remarkable scenic poetry that challenges, bedazzles and disputes.

Studio Oscuro rarely works with texts or traditional scripts and the performances are created together with dancers and/or actors from the physical theatre. The performances are created out from given frames; a place, a poem, an object can constitute the theme out from which the performance is created.  Images, associations and movements are distilled in to charged mobile tableaux where precision and simplicity in the movement is paired with breathtaking visuality. Working with visual means of expression such as set, costume and light design is of great importance for the creation of the performance and ideas involving these elements are constantly present in the working process.

An international perspective where artists with different cultural experiences broaden the process and focal points is paramount. Studio Oscuro has worked with dancers, actors, artists and technicians from a dozen countries in our productions.

Studio Oscuro was founded in 2004 in Göteborg and also work with set, costume- and light design alongside education within the stage art field in Sweden and internationally.
