After the huge success with the children’s performance The Penguin Studio Oscuro are now back at Angereds Theatre to, in cooperation with director and actor Johan Friberg, create The Butterfly Pilots – a dance theatre performance where different styles such as streetdance, kungfu, mime, comedy and slap stick blend. On stage we meet the dancers Phax Ahamada and Ami Skånberg-Dahlstedt. Charlie Åström creates script, direction, set and light design, with Johan Friberg and Christine Åström does the costume and props design.

The dream is about to come true. Only a couple of details left and then it’s time for the house warming party. But the things that where supposed to be finished yesterday are postponed till tomorrow, and the small details (such as the staircase being in different positions all the time) has grown into huge horrific proportions. The young couple whom with great willpower and confidence have decided to grow up for real (with their own house and all), suddenly realise that a house full of craftsmen can be life threatening, so they decide to put the matter in their own hands…
At Helsingborgs Stadsteater (Helsingborg City Theatre) Studio Oscuro creates set, costume and light design for the very popular comedy Hantverkarna (The Craftsmen) directed by Lasse Beischer from 123 Schtunk. Hantverkarna will be performad in several Swedish theatres during spring 2010 and was originally a big succes at Det Kongelige in Copenhagen, Denmark.

In collaboration with multi technician/producer Erik Jeppsson, Mekanix and set designer Råger Johansson, Charlie Åström will lead a workshop in light, sound, video technique and set design in March 2010 at Studio Emad Eddin in Cairo, Egypt. After that, in April 2010, Charlie Åström is invited by the Lebanese director and actor Issam Bou Khaled to in coopertion with him have a workshop exploring the possibilities of body and movement in scenic narration, with the group Decibel Theatre, that consists of young deaf actors. The main objective is that this workshop will result in a performance based on the actors own stories and experiences.
Charlie Åström will also be the light designer for Egyptian director Ahmed El Attar’s new visually lavish children’s performance The Prince of Darkness and Light (workingtitle) estimated opening in June 2010 in Cairo. Charlie Åström created the light design for Ahmed El Attar’s The Importance of Being an Arab in March 2009, the performance is touring in Europe and is performed in Germany, Holland and France during November and December 2009. Studio Oscuro and Angereds Theatre are also planning for a Middle East tour with The Butterfly Pilots in fall 2010.

Christine Åström designs the costume and Charlie Åström the lighting concept when Cinnober Theatre celebrates the 50th anniversary of Norwegian dramatic Jon Fosse by staging his first play Och aldrig ska vi skiljas (And never shall we part) from 1994.

Charlie Åström designed the light for Masthuggsteatern’s critically acclaimed children’s performance Katten från Rom (The Cat from Rome), an eager play with stokes of magical realism written by Andrea Östlund and directed by Rolf Sossna. The play is performed on tour and at Masthuggsteatern.

Studio Oscuro designs the set, costume and light for this show which opens the 8th of May at Pustervik, Göteborg and will be performed in a tent next to the fortress of Varberg in July 2009 and after that go on tour in Sweden.

Charlie Åström made the light design for the restaging of Ahmed El Attar’s The Committee, originally performed in a Cairo apartment 1998.
The play was created and built at Studio Emad Eldin and Rawabet Theatre in Cairo parallel with The Importance of being an Arab and both performances opened at The Sharjah Biennal – Past of the Coming Days between 16 – 25 March 2009 in The United Arab Emirates and will be performed in the Middle East and Europe during 2009/2010.
